here she is:
Definitely it's not the grand one but I owe everything to her.
It's an antique and everyone in the family learned from her, and now it's our turn.
My love for music and my discovery of talent to play and sustain notes began when I was 8, I never knew then that was a talent, all that I was aware of is that I like hitting those keys and the sound that I play made me forget everything around me.
To learn play the piano was not forced on me, I started appreciating the instrument when I saw my grandfather play a piece and my mom played her one and only mastered piece: the Silent Night. *lols.
I remember the first year when I learned playing it, being part of the children's choir in our school exposed me to notes and note-reading, the melody and harmony of tones somewhat taught me the basics.
Self-study is how I mastered the keys and how to interpret chords, of course I take consider the voice training and the rehearsals I had during the time when I was a soprano in the choir.
After school, I devoted myself playing my simple routine, and had a mini concert of my own, I try to find the correct tone and the right keys to play, begins with..
- - Free Willy's theme song, "Will You Be There" chorus.. i remember I fell in love with the song.
- - Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do. (from the lowest to the highest pitch)
- - Do Mi Mi, Mi So So, Re Fa Fa, La Ti Ti (from Sound of Music)
- - Mary had a Little Lamb
- - and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
After a few months, I started learning my first complete piano piece.. "Fur Elise" by Ludwig van Beethoven, I really had a hard time, but I was patient.. I kept on repeating and repeating each staff until I've mastered it and adds another one with my grandfather as my mentor when I practice, he would comment when I play while he works on his desk or having his meal, after some time, my patience had the piece stuck in my heart.
I'm more into classical music, I prefer learning the old masters' pieces. I play pop songs too but the easy ones, well, except for Disney musicals, of course, I love 'em. *lols.
I download music sheets from the internet sometimes and finds time to play it, I photocopy friends' music sheets and add them to my collection, I also have this complete books by Claude Debussy, Muzio Clementi, Schubert, Haydn, Handel, among others.
For me, each should learn how to play a musical instrument from the orchestra, it may not be a perfect piece or may not have the proper positioning of the hands but as long as the dedication, the desire to learn how to play it and to understand harmony in human condition, that's all that matters.

my first comment in vox. lovely.
anyway. the only thing i can play on the piano is "happy birthday" haha. i hope it doesnt disgust you :p
i really miss playing on a real piano though. but given these set of fingers, i won't be able to reach far keys, lol.
My parents bought me a piano, but I had no initial desire to play. They hired an instructor and everything but my heart wasn't in it. A few years later when I fell in love with a soundtrack from the game Final Fantasy VIII. It wasn't a piano piece, it was an actual song. I went to my neglected piano, and started work on hitting the notes that made up the song and it came to me so easily. I've been attatched ever since :)
@ kfinewhatev: well, not everyone can play happy birthday. give yourself a lot of credits..! =)
@ mahmikoy: yeah, me too, i haven't completed moonlight sonata, it's simply hard.. like one hand goin' to the next octave and crawling.. and the accompaniments are so detailed.. but don't worry, if beethoven can do it, we can and everyone else can! *lols.
@ Jou Jou: how true that one cannot like art if it's forced, but true appreciation comes after triggered interest.. ei, did you see my reply on your message here?
I wish I continued my piano lessons way back. I miss playing the piano. But I can't even remember my two recital pieces (how old was I then, 10????). :s
